Former Headmaster Shomie Das (165-H '51) on Doon

Mr. Shomie Das is a former headmaster of The Doon School and the grandson of the school's founder, Satish Ranjan Das. In a recent interview with Doon Online, he talked about his days at Doon, how Doon is evolving and education in India.

When asked about his achievements as Headmaster of The Doon School, Mr. Das replied, "I think I was able to liberalise the general atmosphere greatly and also raise the academic standards without putting additional pressure on the boys. I was often accused of being too liberal!"

Law Student: Mangesh Dhume (39-TA '96)

" I also remember the Central Dining Hall (CDH). It's amazing - the central importance food occupies in a Dosco's life. Nothing to beat butter chicken from Presi's of course, or bulls from Praddu's, but at the end of a busy day, I remember we'd just eat anything!"

Lawyer: Satyadeep Misra (278-OB '91)

"Mid terms were something that I had to do at the time, and so I didn’t really enjoy them. I also remember the different ways in which we tried to skip PT, and most of all, I remember rehearsals for plays in the Rose Bowl which carried on late into the night and gave us a couple of classes off the next morning."

"Sitting on the grass, with one of those wooden chairs laid upside down as backrest/pillow, and reading. The simple things that were denied but became so pleasurable when available, from pineapple pastries to plain bread and butter."
