8.Points taken up with the permission of the chair
A.Mr Lalit Nirula requested that as he had handled the DSOBS Placement Cell for many years, for better coordination and greater response, the Sectt. should now take over the responsibility. During the discussion that followed, it was suggested that a panel of senior persons in the corporate world be formed who could help with placements. Old Boys who may be prospective employers needed to be identified and the Class Reps could be requested to discuss this proposal with them. it was also suggested that this identification process be extended to NRI old boys as well. One member felt that it would be simpler and more result oriented if we approached some professional agencies operating placement services. If such agencies were given our bulk requirements, they would be happy in finding wide ranging placements for old boys. It was felt that efforts be made to identify old boys who run placement agencies as they would be able to offer more worthwhile placements. A new format for the application form was to be made and put on the DSOBS Website. The Executive Secy was requested to liaise in this regard with Mr Lalit Nirula. It was also suggested and decided that this function would be coordinated by the DSOBS Sectt.
B.Mr Mumtaz Ahmad wondered why our Rs. 250.00 per month Scheme initiated for building a corpus to acquire premises for the Sectt was not finding favour with more old boys. He felt that the Scheme needed to be publicized more prominently and vigorously.
C.R. Adm. R.V. Singh informed the House that the Class of 1949 had collected about Rs. 1.41 lakhs at their Golden Jubilee celebrations and had decided to donate the amount to the DSOBS Bursary Fund.
D.Mr Vinit Khanna announced that the Class of 1974 had collected about Rs. 11.0 lakhs at their Silver Jubilee celebrations and gifted a state-of-the-art computer system to the School Library. This system had been inaugurated by the Chief Gust during this year's Founders' Day celebrations.
These gestures were much appreciated by all members present.
E.Lt. Gen. F. Bilimoria suggested that two or three classes of old boys celebrating their jubilee year could be requested to pool their resources and collect funds to renovate Martyn and Foot Houses which needed urgent attention. It was felt that concerned Class Reps could ascertain from the Headmaster the areas were the School needed assistance and then decide on making their class donations.
F.Mr. Vinit Khanna regretted that the old boys abroad had very little information of what went on in School and urged the Board of Governors to have more interactions with them. He felt that basic ideas of education were changing and therefore there was a need for the Board to interact with NRI old boys. Mr. Khanna also felt that plans should be made to celebrate the new Millennium on a grand scale. Suggestions in this regard could be sent to the DSOBS Sectt.
G.Mr. Vinit Khanna suggested that some funds should be assigned to eliminate poverty in the country and we as old boys needed to take positive steps to support the less fortunate. He appealed to all members to support him in his efforts in this direction.
The Executive Secy proposed a vote of thanks to the two outgoing Executive Committee Members who had served the Society so well.
The Meeting was then adjourned till the next year.
(L K Mathur)
Executive Secretary.
