Class of 1962 Batch Get-together on 14th August, 1999

The second Get-together of our Batch was hosted by 'Glogi' Hardev Singh Akoi [ex 127-T], and his charming wife Pitty, at the Imperial Hotel, over dinner on Saturday 14th of August 1999. There were 32 classmates that attended, nearly all with spouses, and with many of the off-spring of our Batch.

It had earlier been agreed that, in future, at all our Get-togethers, we would invite all Staff Members who had taught our Batch, the Chairman of the School Board, and the President of the Doon School Old Boys' Society. We were, thus, privileged to have had amongst us Mr. & Mrs. R.C. Bhargava, Mr. Gurdial Singh, Mr. & Mrs. S. Kandhari and Mr. Hari Dang. Other Staff members, though contacted, could not join us. We will try again. Unfortunately, the President of the DSOBS, Mr. Deepak Nirula, could not attend as he was in the U.S.A.

Mr. R.C. Bhargava & Darshan Singh

Since our last Get-together, we have had success in establishing contact with Nanu Cassad, Subrata Chakravarty, Anil K. Hari, Arvinder Hora, Vikram Lall, Amita Moudgil (nee Kapur), Vijaya Tiwari (nee Joshi), Suvarna Sanyal, Shrinivasro S. Sohoni, and Sunil Shah Singh. We have also been able to update their addresses. This now leaves us with only 2 class-mates whose whereabouts remain unknown, i.e. Mohanjit S. Chandoke and V. Subramanyam. To all class-mates and the DSOBS Secretariat, a copy of the latest Address List as well as lists of those who attended the Get-together, are being mailed.

Organising frequent Get-togethers is not easy and thus the frequency for Get-togethers was debated. Suggestions varied from once every two years to once every six months. The majority felt that at least once a year should be attempted. We have two class-fellows who have offered to host the next two Get-togethers - Vijay Srivastava and Ravinder Goyal. However, in the meantime, the '63 Batch (Gautam Vohra and Ramji Narayan) along with the '64 Batch (Gobinder Chopra and Manjit Singh) were planning a Joint Get-together to include our '62 Batch. Originally, the Get-together was planned in December 1999, but now the date is uncertain. Therefore, the next '62 Batch Get-together has been planned tentatively for Saturday, 11th of March 2000, at the Farm of Vijay Srivastava on Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road. [Vijay & Nina - Please Note ! - and thanks].

During the Get-together on the 14th, we were particularly glad to have had in our midst Nina Paul (wife of late Ajay Paul) and Kamal Jind (wife of late Ravinderbir S. Jind). They came with their children and made the Get-together much more attractive then it would have otherwise been.
As the Batch Representative, I would like to thank Amita Moudgill and Vijaya Tiwari for having attended along with families. This sort of spirit makes the whole purpose of a Batch Get-together more meaningful.

Some class-fellows made special efforts in joining this Get-together as they came from other places. They were Daleep Singh [UK], Tejpal Hora [Singapore], Anang Uday Singhdeo [Bhubaneswar], Ashoke Aggarwal, Gautam Berry and Nani Javeri [Bombay], T.P.S. Brar and Gautam Tandon [56 APO], Deepinder Dhillon [Moga], Mansoorul Hasan [Bihar], Rupendra Mukherjee [Baroda], Gurpreet Singh Sandhu [the Terai], Virendra 'Twin' Singh [Allahabad] and of course, M/s. S. Kandhari [Dehra Dun] and Gurdial Singh [Chandigarh]. We thank them.
During the dinner, there were some active discussions on the Decadial Get-together which the '62 Batch will have in Dehra Dun in the year 2002. Mr. R.C. Bhargava, who spoke briefly, commended our Batch on planning so far ahead. However, even though we have spread the word so that the Get-together can become a team effort; the actual business of getting down to work still has to start.

Photographs were taken during the Get-together. We are grateful to Ashoke Aggarwal who has sent copies from Bombay and the relevant prints have been circulated to those who figure in the pictures. When we receive more photographs, they will also be circulated.

This report cannot conclude without warmly recording the generous hospitality of Pitty and Glogi for the wonderful Get-together at the Imperial Hotel. Even though Glogi deserves credit for 'elevating the spirits' (something which he 'industrialised' in School also!), the real credit must, however, go to Pitty for having planned an excellent Menu with great follow-up on the quality of the preparation.
