Founder's Day Cricket Match Old Boys v the School

For once the old boys had a full team ready to take the school on for the RLH Match on Sunday. As a matter of fact, they had 13 players ready to take the field and they did give everyone a game. Some of the regulars of the school team were on the injured list but the substitutes were good enough to score a comprehensive 51 run win.

Shashi beat Gursharan to the toss and batted first. Amitoj and him opened on a fluent note against the bowling of Kalikesh and Manas. The latter bowled two maiden overs, but other-wise the batsmen scored quite freely. Shashi was driving and pulling the ball well but was a trifle lucky at times. Amitoj too played a couple of majestic drives. They had put on fifty runs when Pradeep Beniwal (Jumbo) had both of them caught. Rajiv Siddharth played a brilliant drive off the backfoot but then was well caught at deep mid-wicket boundary. Tyagi did not last long but Bishnoi was batting really well. Abrar was looking for runs from the beginning but was distinctly lucky more than once. Deep Singh, Luv Parikh, Nalin Khanna, Deepak Kaul all had a bowl but could not break the partnership. Bishnoi played some lovely drives and an effortless six on to the sight screen. Abrar was more attacking and his strong point was the pull shot. Brisk running in between the wickets fetched them quite a few runs. Bishnoi completed a chanceless half century before getting out. Abrar and Nitin then hit out at everything to host 200 before the overs ran out.

Bawa Udai Singh and Prem Bhatia opened for the Old Boys on a quiet note. Siddharth and Rohit were right on the spot and gave nothing away. The former was moving the ball well and kept a very steady length. He clean bowled Prem on a ball which dipped in sharply. Udai and Manas then played some powerful drives in front of the wickets. They had added some quick runs when Udai was beautifully stumped by Shashi off Siddarth. Rabez got a wicket on his first ball as Deep was caught by Nitin. Manas and Luv batted well for sometime before both of them got out in quick succession. Manas was stumped off Kapil and Luv was bowled by Siddharth. Nalin Khanna and Kalikesh tried their best to stem the rot but our spinners were bowling well and needed watching. Ambuj finally had Nalin caught and Kapil accounted for Kalikesh. Hanuwant, Sirohi and Pradip did hit out for a while but Abrar and Ambuj got them out. Ajay was finally run out to finish their innings at 150.

The school team bowled very well with Siddharth outstanding. Shashi excelled behind the stumps and other wise too the fielding was good. The old boy’s team was quite strong but somehow failed to click, and surrendered the RLH Trophy to the school this time.

Scores : DS-201 for 5 (Abrar 66 N.Out, Bishnoi 50, Shashi 32, Amitoj 19 Pradeep Beniwal 2 for 18); Old Boys -150 for 10 (Hanuwant 23, Udai 20, Siddharth 3 for 22 Ambuj 2 for 15, Kapil Beniwal 2 for 33)
