After all the hard work put in by the Old Boys for the Dosco concert, they wanted a treat! Angad Vohra promptly agreed to host a dinner at the Rendezvous in Pondichery. This offer was gladly accepted and a program chalked out to drive down to Pondicherry and spend the weekend there. In all fourteen old boys and spouses took off on a Saturday afternoon and drove down to Auroville with a stop-over at C. Ramakrishnas mango orchard where he plans to grow coloured mangoes! He also showed us the mango tree planted by Abdul Kalam. Angad took us around Matri Mandir which is a beautiful piece of architecture. And of great significance to not only the people of Auroville but also people from all over the country.
Another good piece of architecture is the house Angad has built for himself out of brick and lime. All then proceeded for dinner to the Rendezvous, a neat place located in the French section of Pondicherry. Angad had laid out a very good spread and it was a memorable dining experience. Vellayan had arranged for the stay at the historic For t St. David Bungalow set in one of the most scenic locales. The next morning we started with a boat ride up to the Cuddalore harbour followed by a hearty breakfast and then on to Angads pottery. He is also a renowned potter and his works were indeed very good. He gave us a great lunch after which it was back to Madras after a weekend well spent! And for the North Indian guys who think Agra is the ultimate (!!??) well we now have Pondicherry !
