Mr. Vohra and Cricket in The Doon School

Ever since he took over from Mr. Holdsworth as master-in-charge of cricket 34 years ago, Mr. Vohra has been an integral part of cricket in the Doon School. He has dedicated himself to popularising the sport among students both on and off the field.

No one can over emphasise the dedication that Mr.Vohra has always had towards the game. In his 34 years he has attended all but four matches. Even now with his ailing leg Mr. Vohra is always there to offer his encouragement and to support a sport that he believes in, and in doing so he has inspired cricketers for over three decades.

At a personal level Mr. Vohra has taught me a lot not only about cricket but about life. He has been a pillar of support and was always ready with advice and encouragement. Cricket practice was never a bore when Mr. Vohra was in the vicinity. His tales and anecdotes regale us to this day.

Mr. Vohra left as the master-in-charege of cricket this year. But he was always in the background, always watching and we knew that whenever we needed any help, we could turn to him. In the future as well, the generations of Doscos to come will draw on this very support, as we have in our time and as those before us did in theirs. Mr. Vohra, the man on Ground I, is more than a person. He is one of the legends of the Doon School – and legends never disappear.
