7th Delhi, Inter House Golf Tournament
The 7th Annual DSOBS Golf tournament, Delhi Region, was held on 9th Oct 2004 at the Golden Greens Golf Resort, Gurgaon. A total of 165 Old Boys registered but on the given day we had 134 participants who actually played the round. There were 2 shotgun starts, one at 7 a.m. (would you believe that there were 65 OBs who actually showed up for the morning round!!) and the other at 12.30 p.m. (we had 69 golfers in the afternoon).
The participation ranged from the senior most being from the batch of 1939 (joined school in 1935!), and, the junior most from the batch of 2003. It was certainly great seeing everyone from various batches getting together for this event and enjoying the round of Golf. The format for the event was Stable-ford, which for the ignorant ones’, is based on each individual’s handicap coming into account while calculating the results!! There were a number of giveaways, both on the course and after the round. One of the spot prizes on the course, was a bottle of Smirnoff Vodka, for the best STRAIGHT drive in each group. Needless to say, that was probably the winners last straight drive!! I might add that I met some OBs who started the round in the morning from this hole where this prize was to be given …….. the result was after one of them winning this prize, the entire four-ball decided that instead of keeping the bottle in the golf bag, it was appropriate that the bottle needed to be opened and consumed (all this at 7 a.m.!!) After the round of Golf, this same four-ball was once again seen at the SAME TEE-OFF trying to obtain another bottle …….. some die-hards !!
The afternoon saw a little drizzle; nothing to stop some good rounds of golf and our golfers quite enjoyed themselves. The evening was well spent at the 19th hole with a lot of guzzling of beer and snacks.
The next evening, Sunday 10th October, was the prize distribution, followed by dinner and it was extremely well attended. Since this year we had opened this evening for all Old Boys and not only for the Golfers who participated, we had approx. 125 OBs’ with their better halves at the Hotel ITC Maurya Sheraton, New Delhi. The evening saw everyone having fun and the usual bon-homie that goes along an event like this, with the hotel doing a marvelous job, both with the service and food. The night ended for this scribe early, whilst it was reported that some young OBs were seen to be converting themselves to a instant training course of being Chefs at the Maurya!!
